Why I Left the Establishment to Fight for Homeowners

Every tech company has a “why.” For some, it’s about inventing a shiny new gadget. For others, it’s about optimizing an obscure corporate algorithm. But for me, the spark that created Homezena came from looking at my own closing statement during a home sale and feeling an overwhelming sense of frustration.

Before founding Homezena, my career was focused on using technology to simplify incredibly complex, gatekeeper-heavy industries. My time working with systems like H&R Block taught me that people are incredibly smart, capable, and resourceful when you give them the right tools.

For decades, software empowered people to do their own taxes, manage their own investments, and book their own travel. Yet, when I looked at the real estate market, it felt like time had stood still. The real estate industry was clinging to an outdated playbook designed to keep homeowners dependent on them.

At that moment, I knew it was time to bring homeowners a new way forward that empowers them to own the biggest transaction of their life.

The $20,000 Epiphany

A few years ago, I found myself doing what millions of Americans do every year: preparing to sell a home. I cleaned it up, staged it, and looked at the local comps. Then, I ran the numbers on the traditional 6% commission fee.

When you see that number written down on paper—$15,000, $20,000, sometimes even $30,000 of your own hard-earned equity evaporating just to pay for a listing placement and a couple of weekend open houses—it hits you like a physical punch to the gut. That equity represents years of making mortgage payments, weekends spent mowing the lawn, and sacrifices that affect your whole family.

I realized right then that homeowners weren’t paying for value; they were paying to sustain a bloated, traditional establishment that refused to adapt to modern technology.

I knew how to build software that could automate the paperwork. I knew how to create secure, streamlined digital platforms. So, I asked myself a simple question: Why hasn’t anyone built a bridge that allows people to safely keep their own equity?

The real estate industry didn’t want that bridge to exist. So, I built it myself.

Infusing the Midwest DIY Spirit into Modern Tech

Homezena was born right here in the heart of the Midwest, built on a foundational belief in fairness, neighborly trust, and a healthy dose of do-it-yourself grit. That’s why we set out to design a platform that felt like a supportive neighbor who happens to be a real estate genius.

We are guided by three unshakeable principles:

Complete Transparency: No hidden transaction fees, no surprise closing costs, and no sliding scales. Just a flat $1,495 fee to put you in total control.

Safety First: We built the Homezenist network and automated smart lockboxes because we refused to compromise your physical safety or peace of mind for savings.

Absolute Empowerment: We digitize the confusing parts—the marketing syndication, the contract routing, the tour scheduling—so you can focus on making the best financial decisions for your family.

A Personal Commitment to Your Success

Homezena is on a mission to level the playing field.

When you use our platform, you are choosing a better way to sell that’s designed by someone who has been exactly where you are sitting right now.
